Liza Kellerman - Kellerman Kick

Surely you have seen this young lady from Hoerskool Monument before. Liza Kellerman, arguably the girl with the fastest kick on the last 150m of either an 800m or 1500m race. She is 16 years old this year and aims to qualify for the World Youth Champs in Columbia. And she too has that Olympic dream.

Now Kellerman started running in Grade 5 and trains under coach Hein Mare together with training partner in previous SA Marathon champ Cornelia Joubert. Kellerman at first did the 100m, and now she is training with a marathon athlete, this might be where the deadly combination comes from of having that fierce kick and yet the stamina to run a good 800 and 1500m race as she holds pb’s of 2:11.46 and 4:30.59 over these two distances.

Her most memorable race is when she won her first SA gold medal in the 800m last year for u/15’s. That same SA’s she took silver in the 1500m and bettered her previous bronze(2013). Not to forget that last year she also came home with a Silver medal from SA’s cross country.

“Believe in yourself and your already halfway there. I have goals I want to achieve and a passion for athletics”

This is what drives Kellerman everyday to get back and grinding on the track. With World Champs bronze medalist Jenny Meadows as her role-model with a 1:57.93 pb, Kellerman will be driving to one day also break that sub 2min barrier. But for now her eyes are fixed on the 2:06 mark.

Not only does she excel at athletics but also at Public Speaking and at her Academics. She absolutely loves Sudoku. Speed – check, Stamina – Check, Brains – check! What more could an athlete ask for? Liza Kellerman we wish you all the best for your years to come and may you soar in the 2015 season!
