Heinrich Fortiuin - Coaching philosophy

I must say that being a former athlete makes it easier to relate to the athletes I’m currently coaching, because I know what it takes to be a student-athlete and it takes more than attending class and training. Being a coach, athlete or student you need self-discipline, dedication, passion and a reason for why you doing what you doing.

I believe that all coaches should have a coaching philosophy. A philosophy that serves as something you measure yourself against and which will keep you inline and focused on the task at hand. Coaching is more than just holding a stop watch and blowing a whistle. You need to know your athletes, know your sport and do more than what is expected of you. “This goes for coaches, athletes and anyone aspiring to be the best in whatever they do”.

You can never have enough knowledge, so my coaching tip would be read, read, read and keep on learning about the sport and don’t be scared to move outside of your comfort zone.
