Tamzin Thomas - Twin To Thrive in 2015
South African Youth athlete, Tamzin Thomas, was born on the 6th of October 1997 just one minute before her ‘younger’ sister. They grew up in Mitchell’s Plain, Cape Town. While Tamzin represents South Africa on the track, her sister is a South African Volleyball player. Amazing to see twin sisters excel in different sporting codes.
Tamzin is currently a matric learner at the Western Cape Sport School and runs for the school as well as Tygerberg Club. She specializes in 100m and 200m with personal bests of 11.60s and 24.00s.
Tamzin earned her provincial colours for the first time in 2010 and every year thereafter. In 2013 she represented South Africa at the Donetsk Ukraine World Youth Games. In 2014 she represented her country again at the Region 5 Games. She will be representing South Africa again this year at the 2015 CAA Junior African Championship in Addis Ababa – Ethiopia. That will take place from the 5th to 8th of March.
Tamzin’s goals for 2015 is to run a 11.50 in the 100m and sub-24 in the 200m. Already this year together with Nicola du Bruyn, Tamzin has clocked some of the fastest 100m times in the country. These young ladies are to become even greater sprinters in the years to come slowly but surely approaching Carina Horn’s standards. Thomas has had a tough last year in switching of coaches and being on a very low point, but she has proven that with the needed passion and perseverance that opportunity lies in chaos!
“When I think of athletics and an athlete, I think of someone who is strong, healthy and in control. Some people are just born with natural gifts and talents that allow them to succeed in a variety of sports. Athletics is just something different. To me, athletics implies some form of competition and drive to be better, faster and stronger. Even if the competition is just with yourself.’
We are very excited to see you in action in Addis Ababa and know you are capable of achieving your goals! Good luck with the season and your final year in school. #ICANSOAR #2015
