Wenda Nel

With only 54 days remaining to this year’s World Championships in Beijing, Backtrack Sports turns its focus to 54 second 400m hurdler Wenda Nel. With an amazing winning record this year Backtrack believes Wenda Nel can bring back a medal for SA.

The 2014 African champion showcased great form at the Beijing IAAF World Challenge on 20 May when she outclassed a top field winning in a personal best time of 54.37 sec! The star bettered her previous personal best by 0.45sec, hence getting closer to Mytle Bothma’s 53.74 sec South African record.

Nel proves to be in the best shape of her life and after setting a world lead time on May 20, her confidence levels are most definitely very high. Despite her world best time being broken by Jamaican and American athletes, Nel can look forward to a great World Championships later this year. She will go head-on with USATF and NCAA champion Shamier Little who bolted to a world lead 53.83 sec 400h hurdles this past weekend.

Wenda Nel is one of South Africa’s most consistent athletes. She has won various national championships and her times are just improving every year! We are looking forward to another personal best at World Championships and injury free training working towards Rio 2016!
