Carina Horn

100m – 11.06 (+1.2)

Carina Horn is no new kid on the block in the South African athletics industry and she is slowly but surely making a name for herself on the biggest athletics stages across the world. A few years ago Horn made a big move to Austria and her move paid and is still paying off! Let’s have a look at what she can do at this year’s World Athletics Championships in Beijing.

The women and men’s 100m event is a showstopper at all championships and this year’s women’s 100m will guarantee big drama. With both Jamaican Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and American English Gardner clocking the best times in the world one would say that it’s their race to lose, however, it’s a major championship and anything can happen. A total of 19 woman this year have gone under the 11 sec mark. And don’t be surprised when you see Horn doing wonders by becoming the first South African woman to break the 11 second barrier; it just depends on the conditions on the day.

And that would probably be the main aim for Horn, to break that SA record she has equalized earlier this year in Madrid. And should Horn go sub 11 then a medal might also just be up for grabs. Horn’s recent form comes from years of preparation and we can without a doubt look forward to a great showing at World Championships. If she is in tip-top shape, we will see her in the big 100m women’s final! This will be a milestone that only a handful of African athletes can/will achieve and this might just be her setting the trend for South African female sprinters.

We are looking forward to see Horn in the final and we know she will do South Africa proud!

South Africa supports you 100%!
