Rantso Mokopane is slowly but surely becoming a house-hold name in South African athletics due to his surprising winning streaks against the country’s top Steeple-Chase athletes. Mokopane has to better his season’s best with about six seconds to qualify for the Rio Olympic Games in the men’s 3000m steeple-chase, and this can happen very soon if he is placed in a fast race in Europe! Where are you originally from? “Saaiplaas, Virginia (Freestate)”

What school did you attend in Saaiplaas? “Hentie Cilliers High School”

What is your nickname and how did you get it? “Braks, my nickname comes from my old friend Teboho Nkgobo who used to say I bark when I talk and there’s a dog that always barks, a fluffy dog, so he compared me and that’s how I got the name”

Favourite series and soap(ie)? “Suits and Skeem Saam”

Favourite music genre? “Not limited to one genre, I listen to different genres and artists as long as the music sounds good to my ears and feeds my soul” (Talk about an experienced music fan)

Who is your role-model and why? “Currently  Shaquile O’ Neal inspires me to be the best I can be on the track, but also think about life after to grab every opportunity presented to me”

Why are ladies falling for Mr Mokopane? ” Rantso is who he is and if ladies fall for, then it’s alright, but he is who he is” (Stay true to who you are right?)

Favourite training session? “1km x 8 on a Cross-Country loop”
