Pursue a healthy and fit lifestyle today!

In a day and age where large parts of society have realised the importance and joy of health and fitness, at different levels, KPMG’s leadership decided it makes business sense to offer their employees and alumni an exciting opportunity to pursue such a lifestyle. In addition, the KPMG Running Club has signed some of South Africa’s top athletes to join its young and upcoming talent, furthering its efforts to support and develop local athletes.  The auditing, tax and advisory firm has registered three running clubs with Athletics South Africa in the three main centres where the firm operates: Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.KPMG’s CEO, Trevor Hoole, has adopted #Fitforbusiness as one of his initiatives to take the firm forward. In his view, this creates a fantastic opportunity to increase employee engagement, employee wellness and also to establish KPMG’s position as an employer of choice.

The club will offer the firm’s employees and alumni the opportunity to participate in athletics, road running, cross country and trial running. The Johannesburg club will host its weekly time trial and weekend runs from the Marks Park Sports grounds in Greenside. The whole family is welcome to participate in the time trial with its new family-friendly course. To this end, the club has registered seven international athletes who will be competing in the blue club colours of KPMG. KPMG teamed up with former Olympian Elana Meyer’s Endurocad on various initiatives to ensure the club’s athletes continue to develop and that the club is handled in a professional manner, using the top expertise of Elana’s team.

The club is also advised by Arnold Geerdts, whose Comrades Marathon talks for companies centres on the formulae to success in training for, and finishing the world’s greatest ultra-marathon and how to apply these fundamentals in business. A prime example of the new club’s diversity and support of top talent is Caroline Wöstmann, the 2015 Runner of the Year. Caroline made history when she won both the Two Oceans and the Comrades marathon in the same year. As a Chartered Accountant and former lecturer, Caroline says she can identify with the KPMG brand and is excited about being part of KPMG’s efforts to develop running in South Africa.
