As rain poured down on the stadium our South African hurdlers showed class to qualify for the next rounds without much trouble. Antonio Alkana grabbed a fastest loser spot in heat 3 running a 13.64. The fastest qualifier coming from Omar Mcleod from Jamaica with a 13.27. Wenda Nel lined up in heat 4 of the 400m hurdles and took position in lane one. She got out very quick to position herself and then took her foot off the pedal to come through in 2nd with an automatic qualifier of 55.55.

Earlier the day LJ van Zyl continued with the great shape he has been showing this season when he ran a 49.12 in the very last heat to also comfortably grab a automatic qualifier. The next round will be a tough one as most of the athletes clocked 48sec times in the heats. Van Zyl will be lining up in semi final 2 with 6 athletes in the semi having run sub 49 this season including London bronze medalist Javier Culson.
