The South African Cross Country Championships will be making its way to Pacaltsdorp, George, with the hopes of setting alight the streets of a ‘dorp’ that is known for producing some of the country’s top athletes.

With the 2016 Rio Olympic Games that came to and end and everyone shifting their focus to either off-season training or fine-tuning for the start of the schools’ athletics season, it seems that the ‘serious’ competitions are done for the year. No, it’s not done. The South African Cross Championships takes place on 10 September 2016 and it promises to be one of the biggest competitions this year as the rivalry between home-town hero Elroy Gelant and defending champion Stephen Mokoka continues. Gelant, Mokoka and all the long/middle distance Olympians will head to George with a confidence-high that could see them overcome any obstacle thrown before them.

The ‘dorp’ will experience an influx of different cultures, races, ethnicities and stars, so everyone is encouraged to come out in their numbers to support their favourite provinces. Athletes, young and old, will stream to Pacaltsdorp from across the country in the hopes of ending on the podium, inspiring and producing personal best times or positions.

George (the LOC) has the ability to organize the biggest and best national championships, so start making plans to experience this annual national sporting spectacle.
