Caster Semenya has endured the unimaginable and with just three days before the start of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, Semenya has been nominated as a finalist for the annual Spar GSport awards amongst national netball sensation Karla Mostert and 2016 Comrades Marathon champion, Charne Bosman.

Semenya has been at the forefront of turmoil, but being the strong women she is, she picked herself up, dusted off everything negative and she now heads to Rio as the world leader in the women’s 800m. The Spar Gsport Awards, an annual awards ceremony that recognizes women (from all ages) in sport in South Africa, has nominated Caster Semenya as a finalist at The Venue in Melrose Arch (Rosebank). This nomination is an indication that women across South Africa strongly support Semenya in her quest to become a double-Olympic champion; a dream of any athlete!

Despite the fact that the nomination might boost her confidence, Semenya faces stiff competition from the 2016 Comrades Marathon winner, Charne Bosman, and the South African netball sensation, Karla Mostert. Six Track & Field/Road Running women received nominations, an indication that the sport is back; Caster Semenya (Athlete of the Year Nominee), Charne Bosman (Athlete of the Year Nominee), Tamzin Thomas (Junior Athlete of the Year nominee), Simonay Weitsz (School Sport Star of the Year nominee), Anna “Tannie Ans” Botha (Coach of the Year Nominee) and Mapaseka Makhanya (Style Star of the year) will be flying the flag of the Athletics high at the Spar Gsport Awards.

We wish all the women a blessed women’s month and with the Olympic Games around the corner, let’s support our women (and men) that will be representing South Africa!
