As we draw colser to the annual South Africa National Cross Country Championships to be held in George on the 10th of September, Athletics Mpumalanga announced its team to represent the province with quite a spectecular field. It is the belief of team Mpumalanga that their team will be bagging some medals at Nationals. Most notebaly in the junior category with promising young junior athlete S’busiso Kubheka. He has been battling it out with the senior athletes on the road and he also claimed a gold medal at the 2016 cross country interprovincials which were held in Witbank (Limpopo athletics, North west and also AGN).

Mpumalang haven’t been doing so well in past few years at the SA Champs but with the progress and also the development going on within the province begginers and also the sub youth are the favourites to boost Athletics Mpumalabga in terms of medals. Glenrose Xaba is one of these medal contenders. She runs for Eskom Mpumalanga athletics Club and recently finished 1st in the Mpumalanga Championships and also held her own at the AGN Champs.  She is confident to Defend her tittle she won last year at the SA’s. For Mpumalanga, it will be a great accomplishemnt for the team to scoop as many medals as they can to boost the Province status.

Another athlete that will look to also make things interesting at SA’s in the Senior men 4km is 800m specialist Tian Basson who claimed the gold medal in this distance at the Mpumalanga Champs. Basson is known to spice up any race he enters whether it is his distance or not.
