Kenyan athlete Gideon Kipngetich and local star Glenrose Xaba demolished the elite fields on Tuesday, charging to impressive victories at the fifth and final leg of the Absa Run Your City 10km series in Joburg.
Kipngetich, who had finished second in his debut on South African roads at the Run Your City Race in Tshwane last month, went one better on Heritage Day by securing victory in the men’s contest in Joburg in 28:51.
He finished well clear of Chris Mhlanga, the first South African across the line, who took the runner-up spot in 29:13. Kabelo Mulaudzi was third in 29:16.

In the women’s race, Xaba continued to build on her superb form, securing victory more than two minutes ahead of her nearest competitor.
Xaba triumphed in 31:55, winning her second successive Run Your City race, with Blandina Makatisi of Lesotho taking second position in 34:03.
