Opening her season in explosive fashion on Wednesday night, middle-distance runner Prudence Sekgodiso shattered the South African women’s short track 800m record.
Competing in the first indoor race of her career at the Belgrade Indoor Meeting in Serbia, Sekgodiso finished fourth in 2:02.30.
The 23-year-old athlete, who reached the 800m final at the Olympic Games in Paris last year, chopped nearly four seconds off the national short track mark of 2:06.05 set by Dominique Scott-Efurd in Fayetteville in January 2016.
