Glenrose Xaba delivered again on Sunday, racing to a convincing victory at the fourth leg of the annualĀ Absa Run Your City series in Tshwane.
Xaba won the women’s 10km race in 31:51, finishing well clear of Lesotho’s Blandina Makatisi, who was second in 32:58. Makatisi’s compatriot, Neheng Khatala, ended third in 33:35.
Building on a superb season
Her latest victory gave Xaba another reason to celebrate in the latter stages of what has been a great season for the 29-year-old athlete.
Xaba won the national 5 000m and 10 000m titles on the track this year, as well as the SA 10km and half-marathon titles on the road.
She also broke the long-standing national 10km record held by Elana Meyer (31:13) by finishing fourth in 31:12 at the Run Your City race in Durban last month.
Mofolo wins men’s contest
In the men’s race on Sunday, another athlete from Lesotho, Kamohelo Mofolo, secured the win in 28:40.
Mofolo finished just two seconds ahead of Kenyan runner-up Gideon Kipgnetich (28:42).
Kabelo Mulaudzi was the first South African home, grabbing third spot overall in 28:52.
Elroy Gelant, who had won the previous leg of the Run Your City series in Durban, took fourth place in Tshwane in 29:02, just two weeks after he finished 11th in the marathon at the Olympic Games in Paris.
