After producing superb 2024 seasons, Akani Simbine and Prudence Sekgodiso struggled to put up a fight in the Diamond League Final in Brussels on Friday night.
At the back end of a long campaign, which started for both athletes more than six months ago, neither of them were able to challenge for the Diamond League titles in their specialist events.

Simbine, who won two Diamond League races this year and secured a relay silver medal at the Olympic Games, finished fifth in the 100m final in Brussels in 10.10 seconds.
Up front, Jamaican athlete Ackeem Blake won the race in 9.93.
Eighth place for Sekgodiso
Sekgodiso, who also won two Diamond League races this season and reached the Olympic final, was eighth in the women’s 800m race in the Belgian capital in 2:03.16.
Kenyan athlete Mary Moraa, the Olympic bronze medallist, secured victory in 1:56.56.
Simbine and Sekgodiso were the only South African athletes to qualify for the Diamond League Final, which concludes on Saturday.
