Kenyan athletes stole the show on Saturday, winning the men’s and women’s races at the Hollywoodbets Joburg 10km in Melrose.
In the men’s contest, Vincent Kipkorir held off a challenge from two South Africans in a late sprint for the line.
Kipkorir won the race in 29:51, with Thabang Mosiako settling for the runner-up spot in 29:52. Chris Mhlanga was third, also clocking 29:52.
Mosiako, the first South African home, said he was pleased with his preparations for the Abu Dhabi Marathon in the United Arab Emirates next month.
I’m happy with my result today. I think I’m getting there. I’m not yet there yet but I can see a way forward,” said Mosiako.
“Maybe if I can stick to my consistency and the discipline I have now, I will go far.”
In the women’s event, Fridah Ndinda wrapped up the title double for Kenya, coasting to victory in 33:57.

Khatala, fresh off her victory at the Soweto Marathon earlier this month, took second place on Saturday in 34:29.
Karabo More was the first South African, finishing third in 34:33, with her training partner Karabo Mailula ending fourth in 34:38.
