Kabelo Mulaudzi continued to build on his impressive form this season, storming to victory at the Absa Run Your City 10km race in Durban on Sunday.

In a fast race, Mulaudzi secured victory in 27:41, slicing eight seconds off his personal best and dragging a total of six men under 28 minutes.

In the process, 27-year-old Mulaudzi climbed to fifth place in the all-time SA 10km rankings. Only Adriaan Wildschutt (27:28), Precious Mashele (27:35), Maxime Chaumeton (27:36) and Stephen Mokoka (27:38) have run quicker.

Kamohelo Mofolo finished second in Durban, crossing the line in 27:47 and breaking the Lesotho national record, and Kenyan athlete Vincent Kipkorir was third in 27:48.

In the women’s race, Kenyan athletes swept the podium, led by Clare Ndiwa who triumphed in 30:50.

She was followed home by compatriots Janet Mutungi, who finished second in 30:53, and Jesca Chelangat who ended third in 30:58.

National record holder Glenrose Xaba was the first South African home, taking fifth place in 31:50, with the top six women all dipping under 32 minutes.
