National record holder Glenrose Xaba delivered another impressive result in the second 42km race of her career on Sunday, finishing sixth at the Valencia Marathon in Spain.
Xaba completed the prestigious annual race in 2:23:22, just one minute outside her own SA record of 2:22:22 which she set on debut in Cape Town last year.
Following her latest performance, she now holds the two fastest times ever run by a South African woman.
Up front, Joyciline Jepkosgei of Kenya won the women’s race in Valencia in 2:14:00, holding off a challenge from compatriot Peres Jepchirchir who finished second in 2:14:43.
The men’s contest was won by another Kenyan athlete, John Korir, who finished in 2:02:24. He was well over a minute clear of his nearest opponent.
