South African long-distance runners Adam Lipschitz and Glenrose Xaba both took 10th place, in the men’s and women’s contests respectively, at the Peachtree 10km race in Atlanta on Saturday.
Participating in hot and humid conditions, Lipschitz completed the men’s event in 28:27, setting a new personal best.
Up front, Kenyan athlete Patrick Kiprop secured victory in 27:37.
Xaba, the SA record holder, completed the women’s race in 32:20, with former World Cross Country Championships silver medallist Tsigie Gebreselama of Ethiopia taking the win in 31:02.
The annual Peachtree race is the world’s largest 10km road running event. This year it attracted 60 000 participants from around the world.
